Matias Kiil (b.1995, Stavanger) is an Oslo based artist working in sculpture and
installation, with an interest in the body, movement and space. His work explores
emotional states, issues of being and sociocultural phenomena. Kiil has an
assemblage approach; combining shapes from a commercial context with
materials like wood, steel, plaster and concrete. Design, architecture and STUFF are key factors in how we identify and navigate ourselves through the “everyday”. Kiil uses objects as an entrance into the subjective, striving to convey a “void” between the rational/physical and an abstract landscape of thoughts and feelings. Kiil’s work has been exhibited in both national and international contexts, most recently in the group show DAGEN ETTER, curated by Bjarne Melgaard and Elise By Olsen at Anna Bohman Gallery in Stockholm.
Siv Støldal is a Bergen based designer working in the crossover between fine art and fashion, investigating codes of clothing, often through wardrobe studies and interviews. Main points of interest are the relations between people and clothing, when clothing becomes a tool for defining identity, marking occasion, moods and aspirations. Siv Støldals work has been shown at London-, Paris- and Oslo fashion week and at art institutions in Norway and abroad. Siv Støldal has won several design awards and been nominated for best menswear Designer by London Fashion Institute. Recent projects include Deep Down Below, a collaboration with performance duo Trollkrem, exhibited at Momentum 9 in Moss,
and Emergency Eyewash, a collaboration with NY Artist Carol Szhymanski and poets Barry Schwabsky, John Yau, Judith Goldman and Tyrone Williams, exhibited at Tanja Grunert gallery in New York.
GET REAL is a collaboration between designer Siv Støldal and visual artist Matias Kiil, addressing the habits of consumption and production by conglomerates.
The Clothing industry is in top three most polluting industries on the planet, and contributes with a whooping 9% of greenhouse emissions per year. We’re at a critical point in time where fabricators have to take responsibility and decrease their footprints and the consumer has to reconsider where and what they shop, for a sustainable future.
Støldal and Kiil has produced a limited edition of T-shirts and sweaters. The pieces present a poem by Kiil with the title Proof of Purchase. The fabrics are dyed using saved up waste from cooking, and the sweaters, referencing old military jackets, are handmade in Støldal’s studio.
In addition to the capsule collection, Kiosken is unveiling a permanent installation by Matias Kiil.
Fuck the generic giants! Shop small, don’t go to the mall,
come to Kiosken and celebrate the launch of GET REAL.
