C2S Armchair
Designed by: Stine Aas & Siv Støldall

Materials and quality: Powder Coated steel, felted sheep wool from Old Norse Spæl, natural pigmented.
C2S is an armchair comprising three handmade wool felts swirled around an industrial-steel frame.
The textile is made from natural pigmented wool from the Norwegian Spælsau sheep (aka Old Norwegian Short Tail Landrace). Often coarse and dirty, the wool has a relatively low commercial value, and is classified at the lowest grade – C2S, hence the chairs name. In a modern take on tradition, the armchair uses honest materials and construction methods to highlight the unique character of an often-overlooked natural resource.
In contrast to the natural and marbled wool textile, we have designed a simple metal base with a classic industrial feel. The seat in wool felt is fastened by pressure between two metal parts, which means it can easily be removed from the frame. The chair consists of mono materials that can be easily taken apart during repair or recycling.
The felt edges are kept raw which means no waste in production.
We are not using any foams in the seating, all comfort and softness is provided by several layers of the thick wool felt. To control the stretch of the felt we have added a layer of pvc netting between the layers (made locally for the fishing industry). This is not attached to the wool and can easily be separated when recycled.
The wool is processed by Norilia AS and needle-felted at Sjølingstad Uldvarefabrik – a factory protected by the Norwegian Directorate of Cultural Heritage.
Launched at Norwegian Presence, Milan, April 2023.
